I am so excited to get the Zomer Kids Kamp started and to share some information with you! A little bit about me: My name is Lauren Sharp and I am 24. I just graduated with my Bachelors degree from Utah State University in Elementary and Early Childhood Education. I absolutely love working with kids, which is why I chose to do this little summer camp before starting my teaching career in the fall! You may be wondering what the name of the camp is all about...I served as a missionary in the Netherlands from July 2009-March 2011 so I thought it would be fun to incorporate a little bit of the Dutch language. Directly translated, zomer means summer, and I am thinking that you can figure out the rest! I will be doing the camp at my parent's home in West Jordan, mostly in their yard, which allows a lot of space to do different activities and is a convenient location for many. Here are some of the details about the camp:
Age of children who may attend: Those who have completed Kindergarten through those who have completed Second Grade (ages 5-8) may attend.
Days and times of the camp: The camp will begin on June 11 and will continue through August 16. There will be a Monday/Wednesday group and a Tuesday/Thursday group. Both groups will meet from 9:30-12:00 on those days. The camp will not be held on the following dates:
*June 20, 21, 25, 26
*July 4, 24
*August 8, 9
Cost: The cost of the 10 week camp will be $200 per child. That cost will cover all materials and a snack that will be served each day.
Camp schedule: Each day will be filled with different activities that promote exploration and discovery. The activities will be developmentally appropriate for the age of the children and will be catered to their interests and needs. Each day the activities will be broken up into about 5 half hour activities in the following areas:
- Physical
- Science and Math
- Art
- Social Studies
- Snack/Free Time
Language arts and reading activities will be incorporated into all of the areas. There will be no homework because this is not meant to be an intense learning camp, but rather a fun and exciting way for children to continue learning over the summer through exploration and discovery as well as interaction with other children! Each week of the camp will have a theme. I have chosen the following themes for the 10 weeks of the camp, but these are subject to change based on the interests of the children attending:
- All About Me
- Animals
- Water
- Transportation
- Light
- Colors
- Holidays and Cultures
- Fantasy and Fairytales
- Construction and Building
- Food
